A woman on a surveying crew was killed on the job In Maple Ridge Thursday afternoon, police say.

Sgt. Scott Grimmer of Ridge Meadows RCMP said police were called to the scene around 4 p.m. The crew was working near the Lougheed Highway when the death occurred.

Grimmer said an excavator was involved, but investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances of the death.

“We’re still trying to hone in on exactly what happened,” he said. “It’s early stages.”

A tracked excavator was visible on a grassy embankment on the highway to Mission, B.C. during the afternoon. It was toppled on its side.

Grimmer said the B.C. Coroners Service and WorkSafe BC are involved in the investigation and the death is not considered suspicious.
