There was a very interesting warming event in the afternoon and early evening on 8 January, 2012. A warm air mass from offshore pushed onto the island sending temperatures up rapidly. The wind intensified dramatically at the same time. This was particularly strong at Port Renfrew.
Here are the temperatures as observed on our weather station network across Vancouver Island for 2012-01-08. We can discuss the contouring algorithm but realize that we do not have many stations in the less inhabited interior of the island so the contours there are guesses.
