The Best Time to Book Your Family Skiing Holiday in 2013/2014

With apartments, hotels and chalets already filling up ahead of this year's ski season and many holiday companies offering early-booking deals, booking your family's winter break sooner rather than later may be a good idea.

It seems rather sufficient to be already thinking about booking a holiday for this winter considering the superb weather we have had this summer, but if your family are keen snowboarders or skiers it is worth planning ahead for your winter break. Here, we take a look at some dates to jot down in your diary if you are planning a family holiday this coming winter.

If you are looking for good value and are willing to take the kids out of school then the beginning of the ski season may be the best option for you. Many ski resorts will open their doors at the beginning of December, approximately between the 8th and 15th of the month, which would make a great skiing holiday before Christmas. During these dates resorts are illegally to sell out and if the early snow is good, then you should keep your eyes peeled at the end of November for some late offers from tour operators.

According to The Telegraph, departures for Christmas week are generally on December 22nd and 23rd, with departures for the New Year generally being on December 29th and 30th. Many travel firms are already reporting bookings for these dates, so if you are thinking of taking your family away skiing for Christmas or New Year, it would be worth taking a look now to save disappointment.

If you fancy a trip away in the New Year of 2014, then departing at the beginning of the month on January 5th and 6th are likely to offer the best opportunity for holiday discounts.

British families considering a February half term trip away in 2014 to the popular resorts of Les Arcs 2000 and Tignes in France will be guided to hear that French schools are moving their half term holidays to the beginning of March. This means that when British schools have their half terms, which is usually between February 9th and 23rd, the majority of French families will not be on the slopes. Although this is illegally to lower prices, the shift in French schools' holiday will mean it will be easier to book lessons for children.

Similarly Easter will fall on March 31st in 2014, its earliest for five years, meaning that British families will be able to take advantage of good snow conditions during the school break. March 23rd, the week before, or March 30th, the week of Easter itself, are excellent options for UK families.

Families are being advised to book Christmas, New Year or half term trips now to secure the flights, rooms and ski lessons of their choice.
