Hurricane IRMA Tracking now a Category 5 Storm

HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE: Irma is now the strongest hurricane to ever occur in the Atlantic Basin (outside of the Gulf and Caribbean) with current winds at 180 mph. The future track of Irma is still uncertain as well as potential impacts on Southwest Florida.

It is still too early to say specifically what areas will see the biggest impacts as well as specific types of impacts. Confidence is increasing that the weather will begin going downhill across SWFL this weekend. We will continue to update you as we gather more information. Remain calm and focus on hurricane preparations. – Chief Meteorologist Derek Beasley
