Convicted killer of Japanese exchange student files appeal

The B.C. man convicted of murdering Japanese exchange student Natsumi Kogawa has filed an appeal of his guilty verdict.

William Schneider was found guilty of second-degree murder in Kogawa’s death in October 2018. He was sentenced to life with no parole for 14 years.

Thirty-year-old Kogawa’s body was found inside a suitcase on the grounds of the Gabriola Mansion in Vancouver’s West End in September 2016.

She had been studying English in Vancouver on a student visa.

Prior to his murder conviction, Schneider pleaded guilty to interfering with human remains or offering an indignity to a human body in relation to the case.
