Toronto police’s homicide squad have now taken over an investigation in which it’s alleged a Jeep struck a man dead in the Eglinton West area.
Officers responding to a fail to remain call, say the suspect vehicle was travelling west in an eastbound lane just before 5:00 a.m. early Wednesday morning when it plowed through two people involved in an altercation on that road.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee then steered into the westbound lane of Eglinton and drove off. Police eventually tracked down both the vehicle and driver.
37-year-old Dario Humberto Romero of Toronto was pronounced dead on scene, while an unidentified 59-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Anthony James Kiss of Wasaga Beach, appeared in a Finch Ave. court on Thursday facing four charges including manslaughter, impaired operation, over 80 milligrams in operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and failure to stop at scene of accident causing death.
Anyone with information is asked to call homicide at 416-808-7400, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
