The R&B group DVSN was also scheduled to perform Sunday evening. Instead of performing their full set however, the duo cut their act short to make time for Drake’s surprise appearance. DVSN shares a producer with Drake and is also part of the artist’s OVO Sound label.
Toronto City Hall hosted several events in Nathan Phillips Square over the weekend as part of Canada 150 festivities, including concerts and fireworks every night. Other acts have included the Born Ruffians, the Barenaked Ladies, Shad, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Ron Sexsmith.
Those in attendance took to Twitter to share their excitement at the festivities.
However, those who decided not to attend were disappointed that they missed out on the fun.
Drake also posted a picture of the performance on his own Instagram page.
City Hall is hosting four days of Canada celebrations in Nathan Phillips Square, which will come to an end Monday evening.
Drake is scheduled to perform next at the Budweiser stage on August 7.
